Default Simple ESP trick & other IceBreakers

So, I went out on the weekend and ran into a guy I used to work with last year, ended up being wingman for him (and him for me). From him, I learnt a few little jokes that worked wonders for us as ice-breakers, along with a simple ESP trick that he was only faulted on once.

Lets start with the ESP trick. I'm sure some of you have seen it played before, but I did do a search and couldn't find it posted here.

    1. Ask your target to pick a number between 1 & 10
    2. Ask your target to then multiply that number by 9
    3. They should have a 2 digit number, mention this. Casually mention on the offchance they have chose the number 1, in their mind the result they should be thinking of is a 2 digit number as 09
    4. Get them to add the 2 digits together. Example 27 (3*9) would be 2+7 (9)
    5. Ask them to subtract 5 from the result.
    6. In their mind, ask them to think of the letter in the alphabet that corresponds with the number that is now in their mind. Example a=1, b=2, c=3 and so on.
    7. Now, have them think of a country that starts with that letter (the result will always be D)
    8. Now, have them think of an animal that starts with the last letter of the countries name. Example- Australia could be associated with Ape
    9. From the last letter of the animal, ask them to think of a colour. Example from Ape could be emerald.

If they have done the maths properly, all answers are going to end up being 4 or D for the country.

(the result of the 1-10*9 will always add together to make 9).

    10. Now, there's not too many countries that start with D. You Europeans might not use this but most women are going to have thought of 'Denmark'. As with the country, there's only a handful of animals starting with K, the most common selected is going to be 'Kangaroo' for easy of the colour 'orange'.

How you word the next part is really up to you, but ask them (or tell them) that they MUST have been thinking of an Orange Kangoroo in Denmark.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Opener number 2; This requires 3 coins. For you Americans it will be much easier. You'll need;
    1x Dime
    1x Nickel
    1x Penny.

Tell your target you want to tell her a little joke. She'll get 3 chances to get it right, if she fails to get it right, she has to give you her number, if she gets it right, you'll buy her a drink (and an excuse to keep talking).

Ask her to hold out her hand, palm up so you can place the coins in them (but don't do it yet).

We used the line "Now, listen very carefully..."

    The joke;
Bens mother has 3 children. The first childs name was Nicholas (show her the Nickel, and put it in her hand).
The 2nd childs name was Penny, show her the penny, and put it in her hand.
The 3rd childs name was... Hold up the dime, so she can see it, but don't put it in her hand and hint at her to answer. The experience I got, was that they didnt even think to comprehened it, their answer is dime... which is wrong.

Take the coins back, and repeat the joke (obviously the dime is a distraction, and the 3rd childs name HAS to be Ben).

This actually worked so well for me on 3 different occassions last night. It's up to you if you want to tell them the right answer or not (if they fail to get it).

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The last one we used was another very simple one.

Ask if they'd like to play a simple game. It wont cost them anything and the rules are incredibly simple. If you win, you get her number, if she wins, she gets a drink (like the joke above, the drink is still your lead in anyway).

Explain the rules of the game. You'll ask her 5 questions. All she has to do is answer all 5 of the questions wrong.

Say you'll start off with something easy.
"Alright, Question 1... What country are we in right now?" Doesn't matter what she says, as long it's not correct.
"Ok, you seem to have the hang of this, that's good. Question 2... What city are we in right now?" Once again, the answer isn't important, as long as it's wrong.
"Good, good. Now, I hope you aren't colourblind and guess this one by accident, but Question 3... what colour shirt am I wearing?"
Now here's where you throw in some smooth talking, keep it brief you just want to quickly distract her from the game. Don't ask her any questions because she might take that as part of the game.
"Ok, back to our game.. Question... wait... what question are we on again?" If she answers 4 or Question 4 then you win the game, as that was a question. We had some major success here.
If she's onto it, she may have heard the game before. One or 2 girls we approached with this one HAD heard it before, so they told us when we started. Our 5th question was..."Alright, you got question number 4, number 5 is... "have you played this game before?" In most cases, they'll be disarmed, and answer this one with the truth, in which case you win.

Thats it for now. Like I said, we got a few numbers last night using those 3 lead in's on their own, .

the answers always 3. Or 7. Or Djibuti.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “WOW...What a Ride!”
