    Default Maintaining conversation?

I have a hard time maintaining conversation and end up asking "yes or no" questions most of the time. I feel like I resort to these type of questions when the conversation fizzles out. What are some good techniques to avoiding awkward conversation?

I resort to the whole "what is your opinion on this issue". Try playing the devil's advocate for a little bit of it and then start to come around.

The problem is if you keep doing this with several issues they see a pattern. So use that false time restraint.

You know the very best way to keep people around you and keep talking is the way you feel inside. If you feel really good inside you will give better eye contact, sit closer, smile more etc. Just by feeling good and fun people will feel it and like being around you, you will end up getting rid of most pressure of keeping things interesting with your words. Focus more on your state, and being calm that is really the major factor in how people feel around you, and they will sit there in silence and not feel awkward.

And even start their own topic, just by showing your trying to keep things going it will make them feel weird, so it's almost like your beating yourself into a wall. I sit back and just smile and look at something for a bit, almost like I am enjoying myself, they will look at me and think hey look how comfortable he is, he's fun to be around..
