Default Approaching a sitting down set?

Im really not sure how to approach groups sitting down ..

Usually just go up find an empty seat ask "is this seat taken"?

and sit down then start conversation..

should i just keep doing this or am i over thinking it?

Ive tried just walking up and sitting down confidently without saying anything but usually people don't respond well to that method..

What do you guys think about approaching sitting down sets and how to sit down with them?

Do your opener standing, transition into another routine and pause in the middle of it to sit down and deliver a false time constraint. Then just resume your routine!

The problem is I don't really have any memorized openers i feel like they are not spur of the moment and spontaneous..

Sometimes I've approached a set and said OMG you guys saved me a seat and just sat down..

Maybe i just need to display more confidence/calmeness; I definitely feel nervous anxiety when approaching and if i can feel it i know the girls can sense/feel it

In that case my advice is to practice a few so that you can make them look spontaneous. Believe me it's much easier to focus on being calm and confident when you don't need to think about what you're going to say.
