have you ever noticed how movie stars talk on the silver screen? or even the clarity with witch most singers have?
they speak like that for a reason. this may seem like something you've heard before, the more clear your communication is, the easier it is for the listener to understand what you're saying.
I have found that a lot of people in general do not speak with clarity. heck I was one of them throughout my high school years.
so the question is, what makes the difference between cleer communication and "rough" communication?
the difference is made in three key areas
vocal tonality makes a huge difference, think about how many times you've had someone mumble something that you didn't understand. if only they would speak louder you would understand them. this is not saying that you should yell everything you say, but rather be sure to pronounce every syllable in every word you say. singers know that they have to do this in order for their message to get to the audience, so why shouldn't you do the same?
2. steady flow.
a lot of people stutter or even run out of breath when talking. this comes from trying to get your message across too fast. the solution is to slow down and leave tiny pauses between words. that way you can breath between words or phrases and appear more confident.
confident communicators spend more time delivering each and every word they speak (watch a presidential speech if you don't believe me)
3.using pauses and accenting words to create suspense and emotion
this goes back to having a steady flow, except now you're breaking that flow in order to create emotions/suspense (though you don't want to over use this one)
have you ever listened to an audio tape for a book? notice how the reader uses pauses at dramatic points in order to further build suspense. you can do this too in ordinary conversation.
for instance read these two statements out loud and see the difference.
let's go have ice cream
let's go have.... ice cream
notice that by adding the pause in example 2 it almost makes it sound like you meant to say something a little different. the pause gives her a second to predict what you're going to say next, and then its a total surprise when you say something different from what she predicted you would say. (this works especially well when she thinks you're about to say something sexual and then you don't. it creates sexual Tension)
I want you to start noticing how you talk. do you speak with elegant clarity like tom cruise or Nicholas cage? do you speak clearly with passion and flare like chester bennington from linkin park?
take note of how actors and musicians communicate, they are the masters of clear communication.
