A lot of the guys who turn to me for help in finding women are attractive, successful, good guys. The reason that they haven’t met the woman of their dreams or are a little rusty in their pickup skills is because they have spent every second of their adult lives working on their careers.

They have dedicated endless hours to success in their field and their social life and social skills have suffered. How many guys do you know who live to work? These are guys who spend countless hours every week dedicated to their job. They have had no time to meet women or to even pursue any type of life or activity just for themselves.

I’m sure most of you men don’t want the television show The Bachelorette, but I watched it last season with a woman I was dating who liked the show. The guy who ended up getting the girl this time was a good looking, nice, successful man who spent every waking second either at his job or thinking about this job. Ed had not met a woman yet because he didn’t do anything except work. He even spent his weekends working or getting ready for the work week.

In fact, he nearly lost the girl of his dreams over a job. During the taping of the show, he became concerned about losing his job so he left in the middle of it. The Bachelorette, Jillian, cried about it, but decided she was better off without a man who would put his job before her.

Surprisingly, what happened was that when Ed returned home to Chicago, he realized that Jillian was more important than his job and he asked her if he could return to the show and have a shot with her.

In the end, he was the man of her dreams and they are together still.
Ed came so close to losing the girl of his dreams over a job. On his deathbed, would he want to remember memories with his wife or at his work? This should be an easy question for most people to answer.

Of course most men don’t have an opportunity like being on a reality TV show to help them discover their priorities. What you do have is me telling you that unless you are living a life outside of your job, you might miss meeting the girl of your dreams.

I don’t care how much you love your job; you need to set aside time every week to do something just for you, something you enjoy. That might be playing on the city basketball pickup league, joining a French language conversation group, visiting museums or libraries or whatever.

It doesn’t matter what you do, it just matters that you do it. And you shouldn’t do it solely for the purpose of meeting women. You need to do it because you enjoy it. The meeting women part will then come naturally. Sitting behind your desk until practically bedtime every night will do nothing to help you meet women. And in the long run, a successful career can’t hold a candle to love.
