Default I'll start... :)

Let's start a thread on what works.. and what DOESN'T work when posting a profile online.

I've found that winking doesn't work at all.. and having a short and sweet email is much better.

Also my profile is rather short with only 1 or 2 photos... and no cheesy ones (like shirt off or with a bunch of women).

What else works?

I was just looking at your profile and you seemed like a pretty cool chick but let me ask you this, if you were in a room full of your twins, a room full of your sisters how would you set yourself apart.
This is a great qualification question, but honestly just asking a girl to qualify herself out of the gate can be tough. I always use it before I show genuine interest in a girl to make her feel like she earned it... but as a first question (especially in person, it doesn't work well).

With that said, it ain't bad - i just see it more of a 2nd email or (better yet) a question to ask on the first date.

Also - switch up "a room full of your twins, a room full of your sisters..." to "a room full of women that looked exactly like you what would make you different from all of the rest? What would make you unique?"

Bill

I would disagree on winking. If you make any form of neg, sarcasm, or anything else, even if its on the slightest bit, i would always include a wink. Otherwise, the tone your writing in may come off differently to them than what you are thnking in your head.

I believe he meant don't wink on the dating sites... it gets ignored.

Ricky: you're right, winking definitely doesn't work. Every woman I've surveyed agrees with this.

You're also right about shorter messages being more effective. I use something I like to call the one-line hook, which is essentially a short message containing a question regarding something in her profile. It's a good way to conserve energy, and pull your target in.

As for a profile, I use plenty of photos, as long as they are all interesting, and are full of conversation nuggets. I use conversation nuggets - or really specific language - throughout my profile, along with an ending call-to-action "give me a wink" to elicit action from viewers.
