Default Jeans aren't in my Genes. Alternatives?

It seems like everyone who has ever given advice for dressing *to impress* women suggests "one nice pair of blue jeans".

I'm in the unfortunate position of having a skin allergy linked to extended exposure to denim fabric.

So for those of us who simply can't wear jeans without it causing extreme pain and red sores, what would you all suggest as a substitute, or "second best" pants.

(Perhaps it's not the jeans that are special, but something that jeans universally do...? /discuss)

Black slacks, and khakis are always a good option.

Wear tweed or cords, or are you sensitive to those too? They can still look casual as jeans.

My #1 favorite alternative to jeans is a well-fitted suit with either a t-shirt or button down shirt (no tie and top button un-buttoned)

I'm not sure. After I started getting allergic to jeans in the 4th grade, I just went microfiber everything, and stuck with that. Thanks for the suggestion.

So what it seems like I'm hearing is that as a general rule with wardrobe, you either want to shoot for approachable/fun - casual, or a well fitted suit -- but of course supplementing Mark Redman's rule that whenever you do something fancy, make sure it's only a few notches above the standard. (ie. I didn't know there were non-formal fitted suits. A fitted suit is fine, but not formal dinner wear, etc.)

I'm starting to get a feel for this, I think. Thanks guys.

Why not give denim another try?

Maybe you were actually allergic to the dye, or whatever chemical they used to soften the fabric, not the denim.

I agree with the posts above, you can color coordinate between black/gray/tan slacks. Get a nice black button down, with some pea cocking props such as a nice looking watch, a thin laced necklace with the possibility of a dog tag on it or something similar or course if you are leaving some of those top buttons unbuttoned. Finally to pull this off you can't wear gym shoes with this style because it will spell scrub, so get some black dress shoes and keep them nice. You almost have to care about shoes as much as a chick does hahaha.

Oh yes you can. He's in PDX. Not the conservative south. He'll stick out like a sore thumb in that. HAHA! Fortunately, there are probably enough clothing stores in town that you might be able to find something that works.

Maybe if you know enough about the allergy (after all, denim is just cotton) you can research some options available online? Or have some stuff made custom?
