I went back to the open air mall today to work some more on getting past my aa. I found myself walking around from place to place, and it was a particularly hot day to be outside. Even so, there were a fair number of women walking around. Early on, I made some efforts to say "hi" to a few women, but many of them seemed to be in their own worlds and just continued walking past. I sat on a bench and doodled for a bit, hoping somebody would sit nearby, but it didn't pan out. I decided to seek out areas where I knew women would gather, so I got some coffee at the coffee shop.
Unfortunately, no women sat down near me, so I finished my coffee and went to the courtyard. No sooner than I stepped into the courtyard, a black HB8 came up to me and asked me to take pictures of her in front of the fountains. I think my slightly-peacocked appearance helped with this; I've been wearing tight-fitting rocker t-shirts, jeans, some fake earrings (a la Style's kit in The Game), and I've been styling my hair.
I took her pictures, and then conversation was exceptionally easy-going with her. She was very friendly, and mentioned that she worked at one of the department stores. Improvising, I adapted the cologne opener and asked her if they sold cologne, and if she could recommend a particular brand. This worked much better than expected; she happened to be the head of the men's fragrances department. She stated that she was wearing a fragrance that works well on women and men, at which point I asked her if she had some on her wrists. Instead, she had it on her neck, so she let get really close to get a whiff. I'm very surprised at how close I got.
After that, we shook hands and parted ways. But I'm sure I'll see more of her soon enough.
The whole experience gives me an idea for a new approach...I doubt this is an original idea, but I wonder if you guys have tried asking women to take your picture in front of fountains or other places of interest? Seems like a very logical and easy going approach.
