    Default Breaking ice at gym

I've had lots of distant eye contact with this girl at the gym, but I find it difficult to approach her. We're both pretty serious about working out and don't really talk to anyone. I'm pretty sure she doesn't have a ring on her finger.

I decided to get on the stair master next to her (stairs are her machine, not mine). I climbed up, hit some buttons and before I could say hi, she immediately hit her stop button and went to the treadmill furthest away. Using 2 cardio machines is actually a normal workout for her, but it was obvious she didn't want to talk to me (at that specific time).

So I was initially depressed, but then I thought that her reaction was way too strong. I saw her a week later. I finished my treadmill with her behind me on the stairs. I went to my normal stretching area and about 1-2 minutes later she comes to my area. Unfortunately, another girl had already taken the spot next to me. I didn't feel like going over to her and getting reject again, so I finished up and walked away. Mistake ?

So, my approach on the stair machine wasn't a complete failure ?

Thanks for any input and suggestions.

Dude you probably didn't even get rejected in the first place. If that's her normal workout she might have actually been done with the machine. I think your mind is playing tricks on you if you think you farked up somehow. And that incident was no reason to be depressed. A. you didn't mess anything up and B. it's just some girl who you've never even talked to.

    I know the feeling though.

No, it's too much of a coincidence that she ran away when I got next to her. She also went to the treadmill furthest away. We've had tons of eye contact, so she knows who I am.

I agree with SonnyCurtis, Gymguy. She probably just finished her workout. There is no girl that's going to hit the stop button just because you took the stairmaster next to her. Although you tried, it wasn't even really an approach, as you didn't make any contact. So make an approach.

Forget about what happened and try again. If both of you are making eye contacts with each other a lot, that's a sign that she's acknowledged you and she has her eyes on you as well. Try to start a conversation by going on a treadmill or stair master next to her. Maybe you can pretend you're having trouble with getting the best settings and she can help you get it started. Try to approach her slowly, smile, and say hello. After a few times it'll be much easier. Good luck.

Don't give her too much I contact before you know her or she will find it creepy. The whole point of eye contact is as a way forward to talking with her. It's a bit like opening you mouth whenever you see her and not saying anything. She has probably noticed you by now, so now all you need to do is open with a remark about an exercise she is doing or your doing and tell her how it makes you feel. Such as "Those running machines just kill you after a while" You will be fine!!!!!

I disagree that her actions are by chance. I think everyone is missing my comment about how she came to my stretching area on the next workout day. Thanks for the comments.
