Default Need some help getting started

So I just came across this site not to long ago and I've been reading a lot of the posts on here and some of the things I've read made me feel dumb because they're so simple and I never realized it. Anyway to the point, I've been out of high school for two years and I only had a couple friends that I really hung out with, now I've moved to a much larger place for college and I don't want my time here to be spent alone, I want to have fun and meet some new people, but I've never been good at making close friends, and as of right now I don't know anybody. School hasn't started yet and I keep telling myself, you'll meet people when classes start and it'll be good after that, but I know that's just an excuse. I've never been a real people person and I want to change that, any pointers on how to be a more sociable person altogether?

The easiest way (& best way) to start is to just smile & say Hello to people as you pass them during your regular daily activities.

Even just one or two people the first time you try it can start making a difference.

Hold a door open for someone if you seem them entering a building behind you & say, "Come on in"....

Just basic pleasantries like that will help you more than you'd realize.

Then eventually you'll catch yourself chatting people up without a second thought. But start small & give yourself attainable goals. Even as small as telling yourself, "Today I'm just going to say "Hi" to one person..that's all".

If you do it, you'll feel success & it will give you more confidence. And then it just starts to build.... because that feeling of success & personal growth is addictive!

Tmalons right, just start talking to everyone

Read a few books for the basics and as you start talking slowly implement a few things you pick up
Here's my book list, read through this I've got a suggested reading of 1-4 books to get ya started
