I hang out with several groups, most of them I've been with for some time, and am having trouble out-alpha'ing the already present alpha males.
Most of the times I've been the alpha male of a group was because there was no one to fill the role when the group "assembled", and I ended up taking the spot naturally. But when facing a group with an already existing natural alpha male, I have no idea how to take the spot.
Might also be that I don't feel the need, there is already one, so why would I bother with taking decisions, leading people and stuff? That sounds beta, but I can't help. As said somewhere else, I'm totally a lone wolf guy, I'm always the guy who's there and more than welcome, but who's not part of the group and whose life outside is mysterious. Sounds nerdy, but see Wolverine in the X-men? Like that. Not a wimp, but not the leading guy either, just not giving a frak and doing it his way when he doesn't agree with the group
The mystery is good, and since it's my natural, I'm good at it. But I feel like becoming the alpha would be better for my game.
SO, advice on how to become the alpha of a group when there is already one well established?
