So I've been working on a Minneapolis pickup lair here, started on meetup. Actually have had pretty good interest, and later found an existing but less active group we have somewhat blended with. We had an initial big meetup with about 25 of us, talked about where we were going, etc.
Meanwhile we've been doing pretty frequent meetups gaming, some people go out alot more during the week so there's usually 2-3 meetups a week and a couple good regulars go out quite a bit.
I am going to make a bigger new meetup in 2-3 weeks for everyone where we all meet beforehand and train on a few topics first. Most people in the group have read one or two texts, but outside of the regulars, they are still pretty rough.
So my question for experts - how would you go about this?
And my question for newbies - what would you want to see out of a first practice session?
We will meet for 2 hours to get everyone prepped, then split up in the field for the rest of the night. My main question is on the training part
My thoughts to focus on
- The basics of opening
and include some practice openers and have everyone try these on each other
- Talk abou the basics of body language and what to focus on
I will create a small pocket hand out to help people with the basics, hands by your side, stand up straight, smile, etc
- Talk more about wingman dynamics
Have people practice this with dummy sets, walking up to a set your wingman has engaged and building appropriate enthusiasm
- How to recognize IOI's and what to do with them
again I will include basic IOIs on the pocket handout
- Finally, the cube game. Everyone will have to have a dry run through this, just so they have something useful in their inventory
OK, so this is the first basic training session. I want to make this as efficient as possible, and I understand that means keeping it to the basics, so for beginners, where would you start?
Also and possibly more importantly, what are some good excercises we can do within the group in our timeframe?
