Never go straight into rapport without DHVing and negging. That's killer and is the ticket to the friendzone. If anything you should have broken rapport with a statement of interest or adding in some push-pull. Example: Part of me wants to stay and talk but another part wants me to run.
Before you enter any set, check your body language, have a false time constraint, good topics to bring up in conversation, a couple of POWERFUL DHV stories/routines about yourself and at least neg once within the first couple of minutes. You can also add a cold read in there aswell.
Good of you to make the approach, it's good to hit the floor running but make sure you work on continuous improvement. I personally review every set I make on both the positives and negatives. Like it's been said a million times over on here: It's all just a game.
