Before I start, I want to say that I KNEW it wasn't the best approach and I didn't expect to n-close or anything. Just gave it a shot for fun. This is also my first time actually putting some of the methods here to work.
I was out with a group of friends and one of the guys made a bet with me about getting a waitress' number using a really dumb pick up line - "Is your name Google? Because you're everything I'm searching for." I was feeling up to it because I already made her laugh to start off (regardless of whether or not she was being nice, I took it as an IOI because I felt like it helped establish a little bit of rapport and comfort) and wanted to put something I learned into play, I figured I'd give it a shot even though she's probably been hit on dozens of times this week
So, I got up later in the night and used that line. She went with it, she laughed, etc. She got the idea that I was messing around. Now, here's where I think I messed up (other than actually using that) - One of the girls decided to ruin the fun by saying we had a bet and blah blah. I told her that they didn't think I would do it, blah blah and I wanted to make them feel dumb and make myself look like a fool in the process (cheeky smile). Again, she went along with it. Seemed ok with it, but it was already "over."
Changed the subject immediately to the checks and such - "They'd like this, and they'd like that...and I'd still like to know your name!" Name/handshake exchange. Felt ok. Then I said, "So, [xxxx], that would be (taking out my phone) 917..." (read that somewhere on the forum, but can't remember where. I'll give it credit once I do!)
Obviously, this is when she started laughing (at me or not, doesn't matter...felt good getting out of my comfort zone) and walking away.
So, clearly I made a lot of mistakes. I did, however, maintain eye contact, project my voice, etc. Not too terrible for a first attempt.
I was hoping if anyone can give me some pointers on how to play it off a little cooler next time if a situation with an annoying friend arises and anything else that seemed like it could use more improvement? Thanks!
