I would agree that a canned opener is usually artificial, but for some people it feels natural. I can say that I am comfortable with a few canned openers I have discovered because they feel like me. Another thing I can think of is to just come up with your own.
I would not recommend using the typical "Hey, what's up?" or "How's it going?". I would have to agree from personal experience that those are far worn out and will only draw a boring response from the woman you are trying to get interested in you.
Open with something original and that you can go along with easily. Don't go with something that is cheesy, unnatural, or just straight up boring. As I remember a lesson from Tyler Durden, speaking naturally is a lot better than speaking mechanically.
