    Default Worth Joining a Frat?

Obviously you dont need to be in a frat to party or meet women. However I was wondering what some of the resident PUA's thoughts are on if joining a frat is worthwhile?

Also, I only have two years left of school. Hazing and money also not an issue

Joining a FRATERNITY? Yes, I would say it's a good idea, but only if you are willing to put in the necessary work/effort. You will meet a crap ton of women, but I'd say there are other more relevant advantages to joining a fraternity.

FWIW, I joined with 2 years left of school and have had a blast/learned a lot.

If you were just going into college and would be a freshman, then it might be worth it, but I would never do it as a junior. All of the pledges will be freshman and it will be weird. Find some good PUA wingmen instead and you will sleep with more women, spend less money and have more fun.

I recently joined a fraternity at my college, and here goes my input and experience on it all:

Yes, it is hard to join a group. The pledging process can be an extremely difficult thing, it can take a toll on your academics, and you can count on losing a lot of sleep and calmness of mind.

But overall, the negatives are small and short, and they never outweigh the positives.

I have made friends that are invaluable to me here at my college. They're an amazing group of men that I feel like I fit in and belong with. In addition, the greek and social life gives you the opportunity to meet all sorts of new people. It's because of the greek life that I actually met my current girlfriend. And, of course, the icing on the cake is that it looks great on future job resumes.

I would say definitely go for it. Just keep your chin up during the pledging process, bond with your pledge brothers, and have the time of your life while you're at it.

I joined a frat in college too. It wasn't a big school like UCLA or USC but it held it's own.

Pros/Cons: You do meet a lot of men and women during the Greek life. You SHOULD invariably hook up with girls like I did...that's usually the case lol. I met some cool dudes and did some cool things. Although, be weary of how you're treated there were some assholes that like to test you and talk shit. (Some our still stuck in high school but the shit talking was funny never really spiteful, so don't take it personal, it'll give you confidence to hold your ground plus they encouraged talking shit back lol) and therefore it teaches how to persevere and be tough in hazy situations with people and even the administration on campus. Personally, the brothers I surrounded myself with were a mixture of assholes, shy guys, studs, funny guys, goobers, and weirdos ha. DIVERSITY was huge in the fraternity I joined as well. I thought it was MEH because of the situation of our house but looking back I am MUCH better off joining the one I joined then joining an "easy" frat with no social stature or not one at all.

Just remember pressure builds diamonds. Perseverance taught in college = a much smoother transition to the "real world" with the ripple effect of bonuses (meeting bros from other chapters, sorority girls, etc) being endless.

if you a considering joining a fraternity do it for the every other reason except the girls. Surely you will benefit from being in frat, But have you considered some girls just don't date frat boys. That leads me to say it could actually be a disqualifying thing. How about just hanging out with a kick ass group of guys and sarging everything that moves. Frats aren't actually that alpha anyway. For the most part they are composed of guys who except lower position within a group. I personally stand to tall for a group like that. You should start a secret group and call it PUA chapter. lol

College all that matters is your social status (i.e. how popular)

You probably would benefit from it if you want to get laid.

It's funny seeing activity in this thread almost a year after I posted it. Since then, I have grown in Greek Life, and I have been exposed to positive and negative experiences that have changed parts of my advice, but not the overall message.

As Paladin says, it is all a big popularity competition. Sweetheart picking, getting into a group, hell, even elections aren't safe. I just lost an election in my Fraternity where the whole group agreed that I was far more qualified and able to perform the position than my opponent, but he won because every single person in Greek life loves the guy. It's a crappy time to have to go through something like that, and I prefer to avoid it when I can.

There's definitely quite a few jerks and b*tches in Greek Life, and that can weigh things down as well. On my campus, half of the Fraternities are very hostile towards gay and international students, and it's a sad thing to be in a Fraternity that gets harassed for having gay members.

With all that said, there's still a lot of good people in Greek Life. I have met quite a few people outside of my group who have really ranked among the most respected people I have met. Heck, there's girls I know who feel like sisters to me.

Overall, my view has changed slightly in that Greek Life sucks for the heavy amount of popularity games. However, I would still recommend it for the resume builders, leadership opportunities, and ability to reach out and meet new people.
