I just encountered a similar situation the other day, and the key to successfully approach it is to have a mindset outside of the work place.
Think about it: if you approach her, talk to her, and view her as being a librarian, she will give off the appearance of a worker. If you approach her as if she was any girl not working there, her true colors will shine and you will see what kind of girl she is. If she says she is working, ask her when you can figure out what she is really like outside of the librarian life.
In the end, it's all about the context you choose the conversation to be in. It's another one of those Inner Game theories.
