Default Holy Crap - I'm not even in the friend zone

Well we used to be friends. I met her again after a couple of years and had a great night (no making out though). Actually it's all in my old thread - "I wouldn't say you're a nice guy"

Long story short, we didn't really talk for a while after that one night. So I messaged the following on facebook some time back :

"hey I had to change my phone and get a new number so I kinda lost my contacts. could you message me your number

actually, just text it to (new phone number) "

SHE HAS SEEN THE MESSAGE - but goddamn, didn't reply, didn't even text me. I'm lost. Where did I screw up so hard that I'm not even being treated like a friend right now.

If she wasn't in your contacts to begin with, that's your mistake. If she was, it's probably because you gave her too much at once:

"hey I had to change my phone and get a new number so I kinda lost my contacts. could you message me your number
actually, just text it to (new phone number) "

You "kinda" lost all your contacts? The way you said it makes you sound apologetic about "inconveniencing " her with asking for her number, not to mention indecisive.

"Could you..." is something I would never use here. Think about in terms of asking a girl out - "Could you let me kinda take you out?" Be direct! "Message me your number; I lost all my contacts! "

"Actually, just text it..." I feel like this part is complete overkill. I have no opinion regarding giving your number out first, but it's just the fact that you had all of the other stuff floating around and you stuck this one in there. Could have done without it.

TLDR - Next time, just say "Message me your number; I lost all my contacts!" or something along those lines. Be direct, unapologetic, and decisive.

So that puts me in a bad spot. If I ask for her number again, then that will come across as incredibly 'rapport seeking'.

I'd like to get in touch with her again, but I'm afraid that if I even initiate something like a facebook chat with her, it'll seem like I am extremely desperate.

I should have been clearer. I'm not saying to ask her again. I'm say that, in the future, don't ask anyone like that again. You can look at this as a learning experience and move on, but don't worry, it's still salvageable

Freeze her out for a week or so. Next time you talk, don't go straight for her number. Just be fun and flirty, but don't overdo it. Eventually, you'll bring up the fact that you lost your contacts and get her number.
Always leave her better than you found her.

I also had the same situation. I dealt with it by unfriending her and moving on...plenty of others out there.
