Default Long Term Friends - mixed signals?

I wouldn't say so much as a problem, more of a curiosity. Anyway... there is a girl who I've known since I was at primary (elementary) school who I have never really looked at as someone I would try and go out with. Not from an aesthetic perspective (she is stunning!) but because she went out with one of my friends for a long period. However we are now both nearly 24 and I have been talking to her alot at work, flirting etc as well as a bit of facebook chat and texting.

The other night however she said to me she was worried her house may have been broken into and was thinking about coming to bring me round to her house to 'make sure everything was okay'. Obviously this may have been a genuine concern. She also said I should invite her out for my birthday. The only thing is that in the past she has been known for flirting without actually having an interest, notoriously so, thus evidence that she may not actually have an interest. I am unsure as to whether I should pursue this as on one side she is lovely and would definitely be worth at least trying to make a move. On the other hand I have known her for a very long time and I genuinely get on well with her and really wouldn't want to jeopradise that.

Any advice on if I am just misreading things and should move onto another target?

One method you could use is to "disqualify yourself" and see how she reacts to this...

Heres a link to a post i made about the subject...see if you think it will help
