It was a rainy Friday night.  The kind of night where you just want to stay in, turn on the heat and kick back on the couch watching TV.. which is exactly what I was doing.

I was living in an amazing apartment in NYC, paying far to much rent than was reasonable, but I was at a point in my life where it just made sense to live a life of exorbitance.  Plus as my friend Nick Spark’s always liked to say “It had a panty dropping view”… which it did and I have no regrets looking back.

I was enjoying a glass of red wine from the small wine store around the corner on Ludlow and Stanton in the lower east side of New York City.

I was tempted to go out that night, as Friday’s were always great in that part of the city but I had been going out a little too much this week and needed a night to recharge my batteries.  I would go out tomorrow night.

THEN THE TEXT CAME

Around 10:30p I get a text from Kelly who was a good friend and someone who I was casually dating and intimate with, but honestly despite being someone who I hooked up with occasionally she was a great friend and someone I truly enjoyed just hanging out with.  She was down to do just about anything, from wandering the city, going to Yankees games or just chill with me at a local lounge (Pianos in the LES) almost every Tuesday and sip shots of knob creek (a decently tasty bourbon).

The text read: “In your hood with 7 girls, you should join us”.  She was hosting a bachelorette party and wanted me to come out and have fun with them.  This had red flags all over it.  Girls at a bachelor party are out to bond, tease guys with their silly games and then all go home and crash together.

Plus I was tired and comfortable… so I declined her invitation and grabbed another glass of wine, fully intending to go to bed early.

About 45 min later, I get another text: “Please, just come out for a little bit, I want to introduce you to my friends and you can show us around the neighborhood”.

Again, being a chaperon to 8 semi-drunk girls was not on my agenda for the night, but I decided I would grab a quick shower, meet up with them for a drink and then be home in about 30 min.

After a quick shower and a shave, I threw on my jeans and a nice shirt and my boots, a scarf and my umbrella and headed out.  They were about two blocks away at a hooka lounge where I knew a few of the bouncers so after making my way through the crowded streets, I skipped the line and got inside.  They were all standing around the corner of the bar, sharing a hookah and generally acting like girls at a bachelor party.  I gave Kelly a quick kiss on the cheek and turned to the closet girl and introduced myself.  After about 10 minutes and finishing a vodka tonic, I met everyone in the group… but it was apparent they weren’t that into me… I was just another guy, but even worse was tagging along for the bachelorette party.

This was exactly why I didn’t want to come along.. LOL, but I didn’t let this discourage me.  After another 15-20 min, it was clear they wanted to go somewhere else and Kelly volunteered me to lead them around the neighborhood.

We gathered everyone up, and I led them out making sure each girl had an umbrella and everyone was coming with us (remember, most of these girls didn’t live in the City and it would have been a disaster to lose one of them).

WOMEN LOVE MEN WHO LEAD

I ushered them around the corner, making sure that everyone was with us and lead them to a small dive bar, that has a great night life on weekend.  For those in NYC, it is Sultan’s Palace on 3^rd and B in the East Village.  I knew the manager (met him my first night in NY and frequently saw him in the Gym in our neighborhood) so getting them in was easy (again skipping the line).

Once inside we all did our own thing for a while, and after grabbing another drink  (this time mostly tonic) and meeting a couple of cute girls near the bar I wandered back to check on the bachelorette party.

The music was good and almost all of them were dancing and I could tell by Kelly’s expression that she was happy that I brought them there.  I smiled and looked away, content to be a good friend and make sure that everyone was having a good time.

PART OF BEING A LEADER IS MAKING SURE EVERYONE IS HAVING FUN

One of the girls, who wasn’t as hot as the others (I did mention they were all hot, right?) was sitting there alone and seemed really bored.  Being the social guy that I am, I grabbed her hand and stood her up and started dancing with her.  Who am I to let a girl in our group not have fun?  We danced for a while and while she was not my type at all, we both had fun and I felt great for making sure that she was now having fun like her friends.

After a while, I could tell the girls wanted a change of scenery and they even mentioned they wanted to go somewhere a little more chill to relax.  So I rounded everyone up and suggested we take off to my favorite lounge.  While busy on a Friday night, it was much more chill and had couches for everyone to sit on and relax.

Having committed myself to being the chaperon, I escorted everyone out, thanked the bouncer and made sure everyone had her umbrella (I even opened them for them as they came out which was the gentleman thing to do) and could tell that my chivalry was not going unnoticed as they were all kind of flirting with me… which is a far cry from when I first entered the group.

BEING NICE AND NOT NEEDY

Remember, there is a big misconception that being a nice guy doesn’t work.  It does, you just can’t be a validation seeking wussy.  I was being a gentleman who was making sure everyone was having fun and staying warm.  BIG difference.

The last two girls to come out were Kelly and a really cute girl who had been smiling at me as I was dancing.  As I opened both of their umbrellas for them she randomly started telling Kelly how nice her own boobs were and asked her to touch them.

Now, yes this was SUPER random but I just let them continue their Bachelorette party fun and pretended I didn’t hear her.  She then looked at me (the three of us were standing outside in the rain with the other 6 girls about 10 feet away waiting for us) and told me “They really are nice, you should feel them”.

PASSING HER TEST

Inside I was like WTF?!?  And I am definitely a boob guy, so this caught my interest, but I knew it was a little bit of a test.  So on the outside I kept my cool and said in a playful way with a smile “Nah… I hardly even know you… but maybe later.”  …winking at Kelly as I led them to the waiting group.

We quickly caught up with the other girls and I took them around the corner to my favorite lounge in the East Village, 2A (named after being on the corner of 2^nd St and Avenue A).  Again, I knew the bouncer here (it really pays to befriend all the bouncers at the clubs or lounges in your neighborhood) and he saw me and immediately waved us all in (no ID checks, no waiting in line).

SOCIAL PROOF IS HUGE

Everyone talks about social proof, and I can tell you the simple act of bypassing lines and having the bouncers (who are checking everyone’s IDs and making everyone else wait in the cold rain) just look at you, nod and wave your whole group in, goes a huge way towards becoming pre-selected and spiking your social proof.

Once inside… most of the girls went to the bar downstairs, but I led a couple of them upstairs to the lounge area that had a smaller more intimate bar.

Now if you haven’t been to 2A, it has a nice comfortable lounge area overlooking a busy corner in the East Village.  It is the perfect place for meeting someone for drinks or just relaxing with a group of friends.

The two girls I was with outside who opened the boob conversation, were at the bar with me and I leaned into Kelly and asked her if she wanted a whiskey kiss.  Now most of you have seen this technique and from the feedback many guys have adopted it as their default first kiss technique… and this girl was no stranger to it.  I think she might have been the first girl I had used it on about a year prior to that moment.

I still had plenty of Whiskey (remember it just requires a tiny bit on your lips and maybe a small splash inside your mouth) so I leaned in and gave her a soft sensuous kiss.  I could feel her lean into me, but at that moment I leaned away and smiled at Kelly saying “I think she liked it…”

Now remember, both these girls were feeling really playful so I suggested they give each other a Whiskey kiss.  Without hesitation, they started kissing and I actually had to gently pull them away from each other as their friends were actually really close and I knew that if they saw this going down, they would say something and snap these two out of their playful mood.

Of course at this moment, being the PUA that I am, I knew it was on… but (and this is really important) I let the night play out.  You don’t want to come across as overly anxious or excited to take them home… you need to just play it cool, regardless of how much you just want to lead them both out of there.

Now maybe if it were just us three, it would make sense to escalate things and get them back to your apartment… but since it was a group of them having a party, that tactic would have backfired pretty hard.

PLAYING IT COOL

Instead, I led them back to the group and continued to make sure everyone was having a good time.  The night slowed down, and soon the girls started saying their goodbyes, leaving just the three of us alone in the lounge.  I offered to let them sleep over at my place since it was really close and we started walking to my apartment which was about a block away in a nice doorman building with an elevator.  Again though, I made sure they had all their things, and opened their umbrellas for them as we stepped outside.

Remember, being a gentleman is ALWAYS a good move.

I won’t go into the details of the rest of the night, but I do remember the next morning after they left, having my doorman pull me aside and tell me “When I grow up, I want to be you.”
