Default Workout and Supplements

Hey guys,

I just wanted to share some of my fitness advice. I'll have to post pics soon, not out of vanity, but to prove my legitimacy in giving advice in this area, lol. But for now, here's just my advice.

First of all, if you're looking to get in shape, you need to realize muscle burns twice the calories of fat. If you want to effectively burn fat, you need to gain muscle. So I highly recommend getting into body building right off the bat. Start with a 3 day split and lift what you can, and learn all you can about body building. The other thing I recommend is the P90x. It will give you RAPID results, and if you're into bodybuilding it works. People are shocked when I tell them all I do is the P90x when they see how big my arms are. The thing is, using your own body weight, a chin up bar, and some weights and/or bands are all you need. I never bench but I have a crazy ripped chest - I just do the P90x. The P90x requires like, 2 hours out of your life a day at first, because you'll hit the pause button, and an austere diet, but I literally saw results in 2 weeks. When I went to the gym and did a my regular body building split I never saw results that fast. You can get the P90x much cheaper on Amazon or eBay, but make sure you get a 100% legit copy with the NUTRITION PLAN.

Secondly, I ignore the P90x supplements, I know better from body building. It's not that I am arrogantly asserting I am more intelligent than Tony Horton and the Beachbody staff, it's just the people at bodybuilding.com are smarter, and I learned from them, and through experience, what works. The P90x post work out formula is mediocre. What you should be drinking is some water until you cool down enough to drink whey protein or a whey protein Isolate like IsoPure.

Here's what I use for supplements. They are a HUGE part of your workout game. They will give you the edge, and taking them motivates you to work out, especially the pre-workout formulas.

Optimen MultiVitamin (best multivitamin out there, plus it's wicked high on zinc so you rarely catch colds)

Gold Standard Whey - Although IsoPure is better if you can afford it. If you use Gold Standard, I recommend using one scoop (25g's of protein) in 1% or skim milk, which also has protein. It doesn't mix well with water. You don't want to use two while cutting because it has 120 calories per scoop, and the milk has calories too. However, IsoPure has 105 calories per scoop, and it mixes with water just fine, it's almost like juice, so you can do two scoops for about 50g's of protein in water without the fat or calories milk has, plus they have a zero carb version. Personally I use Gold Standard, because I'm poor and I just dropped $45 on Animal Cuts.

Jack3d or Smash Fully Loaded pre-workout. Jack3d is the better route, but I am currently going through a jar of Smash.

AnimalCuts - they are probably the best fat burner you can buy. It's $45 or so for a 3 week supply. You take one pill in the morning pre-workout, and then you take another one like 5 hours later, which is a diuretic, which basically causes you to literally defecate excess body water and other product. Very effective fat cutter.

An alternative fat burner is RippedFuel Xtreme. I recommend this or Lipo 6 if you cannot handle the diuretic from AnimalCuts or the other things it does to your body.

Flax oil pill for the Omega 3's and heart health. A healthy heart goes a long way during cardio, and the Omega 3 fatty acids can actually cause weight loss.

In my opinion, the most important supplement is your multivitamin. Also, everyone loves creatine and people will tell you to use it especially while cutting, but, I don't recommend it, because it causes body mass bloating all over. This can do weird things to your body, such as cause you to gain a waist size (muscle around the waist bloats).

Additionally, forswear beer during your 3 week cutting period, ESPECIALLY if you use animal cuts. Do you REALLY want to drink beer while you're on a diuretic?! No way.

And before you begin a program, set a goal. Do you want to be like Rambo or Brad Pitt? They recently did a poll on some women's website. More than 80% of women chose a ripped, lean body like Brad Pitt's as the ideal male body (our of about 10 choices). The really skinny, lanky body like Orlando Bloom scored the lowest.

You know. This is just the sort of post I was looking for! I actually Study Sport Science at university but due to my lack of actually putting any of the theory into practice I was unsure where to find a genuinely successful article about gaining lean muscle mass.

I'm around 6 weeks into a weight training program I've devised myself and can already feel myself getting stronger. Like you say, greater muscle mass means you burn more calories and thus losing excess body fat becomes a whole lot easier. Unfortunately the equipment at my local gym is rather limited so a combination of these dvd's you have recommended and specific sessions at the gym should really boost my results.

Just out of curiosity what equipment do you have at home for these dvd's? Also I'm using Premium Whey Protein and I can really notice the difference in this short period.

I have the opposite problem. Everyone always talks about losing fat etc. I'm just naturally skinny and have an unbelievably hard time putting on muscle. I look decently cut with no shirt on, - i could pop my pecs since like middle school but building more muscle is soooooo slow. It takes me like 3-4 months to see the smallest of results even though i may be lifting considerably more than when i started. Frankly its pretty disheartening.

@Martano - All you need for the P90X is a chin-up bar (they're only like $20-$30 now, which means like what, 15 pounds?), bands (P90X lets you know which 3 sizes to get, also pretty cheap) and weights. They say to get a set of them, but I just use adjustable ones. You'll also need a yoga mat and it helps to have push up bars. I think you'll like this plan a lot.

@InTheMaking - Firstly, you may actually want to start using creatine capsules or powder, which will boost muscle mass all around. It's actually good for skinny guys. My former bodybuilder roomate had the same problem as you, and he eventually got huge. You'll also need a mass-gaining whey protein. IsoPure Mass has 600 calories, it's a good option. You should be lifting heavy, 8-10 reps, and lay off the cardio.

Sounds good.. but if u do not need to gain much weight.. skip the weight gainer and replace it with regular whey protein. the pre workout jack3d u cycle on and off.. u do not stick with it all the time same with the torrent...the only supplements you take all the time whey protein, vitamins. amino acids multivitamin 2 daily weight gainer or whey after a workout before and during the workout jacked torrent after a workout BCASS after.

I agree with rihaan. I'm on exercising way. 2 hours everyday (push-ups, jogging, boxing). In terms of supplements, i take MX Omega 3 Fish Oil. Well, it's not a weight loss supplement, but it helps me a lot to have a healthy living and also to motivates me to have a proper diet routine.
