Asking a woman out on a date, especially for the first time, can be a nerve-wracking experience for any guy. A lot of men want tips on how to ask a girl out, even those who act confident and nonchalant. At first thought, it may even seem like an impossible task that will take forever to work up the nerve for.

Fortunately, there are several tips and styles on how to ask a girl out for the first time. Before you ask her for a date or even consider it, prepare yourself for a possible rejection and realize that sometimes it happens, and that's okay. After all, while a rejection to a proposed date can be painful, it's not the end of the world and, given some time and effort, you can always ask again when the time is right.

Be Direct and Respectful:

There's a myth floating around out there that women like to be told what to do, and that includes being told when they will go out on a date and with whom. While it's definitely true that many women are secretly hoping that a guy will ask them out, there's certainly a big difference between a direct approach and a forceful command or assumption that she "wants a man to think for her". Often, the direct approach is the best approach. Tell her that you would like to take her out somewhere special. Not only does this show you're being honest about your feelings, which is something any girl will appreciate, but it also conveys self-confidence without the need for male posturing that can turn a girl off to any notion of a date. Timing is also important. While it's good to be direct, read her body language. Ask her when she's comfortable, in a good mood, and you're both relaxed; a girl will be far more open to an idea of a date if she's in a good mood and not stressed out.

Don't Push if She Declines:

If she declines the offer, don't try to convince her that she's wrong and should change her mind, which may only lead her to believe you've got no respect or manners. She may have plenty of reasons as to why a date isn't what she wants to do right at that given moment, and goading for a "yes" will probably get you the exact opposite response. Instead, give it some time. Not an hour or a day, but several days and weeks. It could very well be she would just like to get to know you better before accepting a dinner date or other outing. When the situation comes around again and feels right, ask her again.

Be Yourself:

Pretending you're someone you're not is definitely not how to ask a girl out on a date. Many relationships are doomed from the start because one or the other partner can't keep up a false facade forever. Instead, be yourself. Don't put on airs, don't brag, don't act like someone you're not. After all, if you're hoping for a relationship beyond the first couple of dates, it's going to become really hard to keep up acting.

Try a Creative Approach:

If you're unsure of how to ask a girl out, try a creative approach and have fun with it! If you simply say "I'd like to take you to dinner", this may sound a bit bland to some girls that are more high energy and hoping to go someplace exciting. Do a little research around town and see if there are some new restaurants opening up, or if any well-known chefs are offering specialty dishes. Asking her to check out a brand new restaurant with you that has a live band or other attraction is going to sound a lot more fun than simply going to a same-old-same restaurant.
