Quite the contrary, my friend. Quite the contrary. dhv comes in many forms, not just stories.
DHV is part of your life, whether you call it that way or something else. Let me give you some examples.
When you are challenged to a fight and you defeat your opponent with your words is a DHV ( it shows wit, courage, superiority and more ).
When you "show" that you have taste is a DHV.
When you "show" that you travel is a DHV.
DHV is ( in a few words ) basically bragging without actually bragging at all.
You are telling people that you are the sh1t without actually telling them. They figure this out on their own, led by assumptions you cleverly plant in their minds, which is far more valuable than just telling that.
What you said about mixing dlv with DHV is quite powerful, it kind of messes with their heads for a bit. Saying for example "I've never kissed a girl" combined with a sly James Bond smile goes a long way, even if you don't see it right away or even if you don't see it at all, for that matter. You plant the seed, you let it grow, then you reap the rewards.
DHV stories also serve a purpose, in fact the same exact purpose. It's a matter of timing and arranging between a story DHV and an action DHV. When you successfully plant an action DHV, you can go into a story DHV without a single problem coming your way. Of course, it has to do with your socio-dynamic situation ( aka calibration )
