Most guys get rejected on Facebook, MySpace and other social networks because females have their critical factor way up and they are looking for guys trying to get with them. The critical factor is the conscious mind. It's the gatekeeper so to speak.

When you ask a question you bypass the critical factor.

For instance, I sent a female a message that said this:

I have a friend who dates one of our friends ex girlfriends. I'm friends with both of them and theirs a part of me that wants to keep quiet about it and another part of me who wants to tell my friend and get things out in the open. I'm sort of stuck in the middle and I wanted to get a females perspective on this. So what would you do in this situation?

Now it doesn't matter if this story is true or not. The objective is to get her to answer the question and then you can start up a conversation with her and lead the conversation into different areas.

This way, you're not putting her critical factor on alert and her guards are down because it's just a simple question.

I agree with asking a question, but I think it's more effective to ask them something specifically about themselves. I think girls are going to eventually see right through this "I need a female opinion on this" routine. I know most will disagree with me, but i think it shows weakness. It could be a decent Opener in person when nothing is disclosed, but online girls are there to get connected and they have already displayed all kinds of information in their profile for you to use. Why contact them with something so random?

This might work for someone who is one degree of separation from you, "Hey, I just noticed you're a mutual friend of a friend of mine, and [ I have this interesting predicament... --- OR --- I think we met at a fundraiser once, and I just had to say you remind me of an middle-school music teacher I once had ]"

Then start the conversation. I'd be interested in more discussion on this. TOugh topic that I know nothing about, especially completely random girls you have no business contacting.

You can ask questions all day. If you're not the right height, color or whatever they still won't reply.

There's girls on sites where I actually took the time to read bios. I asked something personal or silly as a start..nothing.

It's the same as in real life- a crap shoot.

I've always found, for dating sites. The best replies I got were from a simple question such as... 'Corronation Street Or Eastenders'

Two British Soaps. Usually makes them giggle and respond. You can crack on with your game after that.

I have never tried that, I sometimes get good results with picking up women with Facebook. I'll use an opinion Opener and see what happens, thanks! Learned something new today.
