I almost always try to bring value to the group.. making a negative comment to her friend (the obstacle) will just make her try harder to keep you from being with her friend. Instead - try to become very friendly with the obstacle.

And Nick is right, that line will work in the exact right situation.

Using it out of context will not work.

Instead, use more of the "that's great you have a boyfriend, he must be really NICE" and just pile on how boring it must be to be settled down.

Since I actually posted the goldfish line (I think?), let me just throw out there that this line is not meant to get a girl who has a boyfriend to cheat on him. It serves one purpose: to give you a quick, witty, confident and funny response to her saying that she has a boyfriend. You have to say it with a big smile so she knows you are joking around.

A girl saying she has a boyfriend doesn't only attempt to Disarm you, but it also kills the mood of your conversation. If you have a few things ready to go to disarm serious comments, you can continue the funny pace of the original conversation.

First off I have to say that I have never seen "the goldfish line", and used in this situation, I had to laugh hysterically. I'm just gonna say this...if it's serious and she's happy, way to much work. You'll probably get bored with her anyway. Always remember...no matter how hot a woman is there is a man somewhere that is sick to death of her. But if she's in a broken relationship you can just be that "friend" that eventually will win her over. Find out more about the boyfriend and get back to us.
