Some scents work great on others but don't do much for some. I like Hugo Boss, Fahrenheit, Tommy Boy and CK on men, generally. The one am dating wears CK Euphoria during the day and it's light and citrusy, I love it.

One of my x's used to work at Dillards at the perfume department and she used to go on about seasonal cologne. The Fall and Winter you are supposed to wear oil based cologne such as eternity, herrera, etc.. most of the time anything that is usually yellow or not clear is oil based. These are usually full of spices and are deep and rich in scent which gives more of a warming scent. In the spring and summer time you are supposed to wear more citrusy and fruity colognes such as Kenneth Cole Reaction, Lacoste Essentials, Eternity Summer is a KILLER ONE, and ones like that. That is just what she told me which kinda makes sense, but IMO doesn't really matter. You need to find out how your skin holds cologne...I can spray some water/alcohol based cologne such as ANY of the spring ones I mentioned and in 4 hrs its GONE ! It simply does not stick to me and usually water/alcohol based ones do not stick NEAR as well as the oil based ones do. Test around and find a scent that not only works for you, but sticks as well. I wear a ton of things, but am thinking of going back to my old favorite that Matrix talked about. Armani Code is awesome! I really liked Aqua Herrera too, but they quit making it like last year I was told.

Hey JonJeremy, thanks for sharing that. I'd keep that in mind when buying new colognes as well. I guess oil-based stuff would also do better if you're planning to do some sweating (like dancing). Just need to invest on ones that won't stain clothes though.

Great post. Thanks for the info bro. Yes, it's true. Oil-based perfume stays longer and has a richer scent than alcohol-based. And usually, alcohol-based perfumes are quite irritating to the nose.

hey no problem..I'm just glad I could contribute ! Idk if everyone knows this but the places to put cologne is the wrists, neck, and the back of your legs where it bends...the opposite site of the knee. These are points that are ideal because they distribute the scent all over and around your body and something to do with the blood flow, which I forgot what she said it was and thought it was BS anyways. Another general tip is do not store cologne in your car in the summer because the heat will get it really hot and a lot of the strength of the scent will be lost. Here's a decent tip for the broke and low budget guy trying to smell good...check your town for a RUE21 and GO TO IT !! I don't care about their clothes as they are really cheap, but they do have 2 types of cologne that are great ! The first is Rue21 Revert, which smells like Eternity Summer and has a real clean and floral scent. The other is Ru21 Black ,which smells A LOT like Hardy ! Best thing is they are only like $10-$15 each and they smell GREAT! I used them for my locker at the gym and is good filler cologne so I can smell good all the time without having to break my pocket book trying.

I actually still use a product I picked up during my AFC days.

My only problem is, I don't know what to tell women when they ask what cologne I'm wearing. Anyone have tips? I usually look at them playfully and say "What, you only like me for my cologne?" and just divert the question, but if someone has a better idea please let me know.

I wouldn't claim to be an expert, but I wear Old Spice Pure Sport. I like the smell, and it is nice without punching people in the face when I walk by. I have gotten several unsolicited complements on it in the past, even after it had been many hours since application.

I also occasionally use a little Axe.

Oh and other things to consider when buying/wearing scents

1) your lifestyle
2) your natural body odor (some guys' skin just smell better than others) or pheromones
3) whether you will use it during the day or at night
4) whether you live somewhere tropical or not (i mean, smelling like coconut or pineapple is more likely to be acceptable in Hawaii than Vermont)

I generally prefer citrusy/fresh scents. I also believe more girls actually sniff after a clean, freshly-bathed smelling guy. Oh and we'd still rather we can still smell our own scent, the smell of the food coking, the ocean, etc... so spray it or dab it, don't bathe in it.

Acqua di Gio works everytime for me but I also use Blue Jeans by Versace.

(meanwhile, I dig baby cologne on chicks during the day! Talk about driving me wanting to corrupt, haha)

Girls do this.

1) We pile on the scent
Example... we use lavander soap, lavander shampoo, lavander lotion and lavander perfume... so we'd smell of lavander inside and out, and we need not put on too much of one product because it's basically covering us from head to toe. Am just not sure though if they sell bath sets like that for men. But I guess you can just use similar-smelling scents and pile that on, from soap to aftershave to perfume.

2) We mix and match
Some of us don't want to be identified as the Chanel No. 5-smelling girl (love that scent by the way). Of course we want to smell unique. So we'd spray on two scents instead of one for a more unique and personalized scent. Maybe you can try that too and use it as a conversation piece...making the girl identify what you're wearing. She'd at least be sniffing you a lot.

Why am I sharing? Because I'm a bloody know-it-all who can't resist
