I hated dancing. My flatmate changed my mind by putting on music and having us dance round like idiots in our apartment. Monkeys one minute, zombies the next. It started to break down my bad associations with dancing.
Then, as he was a musician, he started to show me the beats in the music. This may seem obvious, but what wasn't to me was there were lots of small beats in the music and extra beats that I didn't hear before. As I started to listen to it my body started to pick them up.
Then it was just a case of listening to the music they played in clubs all the time but at home until I knew the beats and little beats inside out. I started to dance to those beats at home and believe this or not my friend, dancing is like anything in life, you only get good if you start practising A LOT!
Don't go to the dancefloor in a club and hope to start looking good unless you have practised at home for hours first. That's what the dudes who look good on the dancefloor do, we all need to too :-) The hot girls I have had over the years who dance good are always in their bedrooms dancing to MTV.
Even now, if I haven't been practising dancing at home and listening to the music I forget how to dance. Guess it doesn't come naturally to me.
I did dance classes too, street dance, etc. Was really cool and fun, but didn't help my dancing much as the moves were way to complicated for me go onto the dancefloor and attempt without making an ass of myself :-D
