I've pulled it off a few times. It's a great way to catch smart girls. You just have to be careful.

My library is also a community college. So they're always on the go or in packs.

Don't do it where hardly anybody can see you. Otherwise, you might really stand out. lol

Ya there's game to be had at the library haha- I picked up a girl in the library elevator once; it was pretty cheesy but I just popped out with 'you look familiar' which got her interested and started the chat. She gave me sh*t for it later on our date- but hey I got her number and we went out for several months!
