Red face How to Avoid Awkward Moments and Keep Conversation Going

I've been talking to a girl for about two weeks now and she really confuses me. Over txt we Bounce off of each other nicely, but in person it can sometimes be awkward. We hung out this past night saw a movie, but in the car ride or walking to and from the movie, we didn't talk much and the goodbye was just a simple" bye". How do I avoid these moments and build more Comfort with her?

First of all, check out this thread

The simple art of Conversation

But I always ask open ended questions instead of yes or no ones. That is, "what did you want be when you were a little girl" instead of "what is your favorite color." Read up on current events and have some interesting things to say. If you don't know anything about the world (e.g. if you just play video games all day or sleep all day) you will have trouble being interesting. So keeping yourself educated and aware will go a long way.

Hope this helps,

-jkwan

Try to talk about something she can relate too. Dreams, goals, aspirations, and ambitions. You have to break the ice in conversation, cause the truth of the matter is SHE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY EITHER! and probably feels just as awkward as you. Whenever and uncomfortable or awkward silence comes up. You don't always need to "fill the void" just acknowledge that there is an uncomfortable silence because both of you don't know what to say. This usually can be humorous and will turn it into a comfortable silence which is necessary for any person to feel comfortable around each other. Or could entice her to initiate conversation. Avoid the simple yes and no questions. When she says something, tell her your opinion about it, ask her to elaborate, or say what it reminds you of, even if it doesn't relate it will stop the conversation from dying out. Try learning new things and diversify yourself, it will help you bring more to conversations. Girls generally have a more developed right brain than guys, so anything along the lines of philosophy, arts, memories, and emotions are going to be easily related to and natural for girls to express.

Listen and Learn. You should be trying to learn about that person and her passion. Listen for hook words where you can keep digging deeper. Use eye contact to read if she is comfortable continuing or uncomfortable so you can change the subject.

I'd be careful in a bar/club setting. That conversation could get mundane. That would be perfectly suitable topics on a second or third date.
