By doing it overtly their subconscious knows and will in a sense warn them causing unwanted results or them wakening from the trance.
NLP they are not aware they are being hypnotized so the subconscious mind is not alerted and if done correctly you WILL get the results you wanted.
Overly hypnotizing someone takes a lot of assurance that nothing bad will happen along with suggestions of the same nature. Because if these assurances aren't there people will not agree to it. These warn a person subconscious which is why a hypnotist can get people to respond to what they say or do but still cannot control what the person does. Its still you thinking you're just much more relaxed and open to suggestion, so if a person knows they're hypnotized and you suggest things you don't agree with you will likely wake up.
