Well let me try to help you.

You need to establish your own style. Look online for some men's styes and simply ask yourself is this me? If it is, get started with the basics. Have a nice pair of either hard bottomed shoes or cool set of sneakers (think Aldo, PF Flyer's etc not Nike and Reebok). From there get your self a nice pair of levis 514 dark jeans. Add a nice button-up shirt or V-neck. Wear a belt with a medium sized buckle. Finish it off by having a fresh hair cut and a cologne that cost more than $40 a bottle (or at least one that you can't buy at wal-mart).

If you do this, you are ahead of the pack and anything you add will help you stand out more from there. What you add to your basics will essentially become your style. You can add jackets and blazers and hats later. In my experience having foundation filled with nice basic clothing adds to your confidence. There is nothing worse than wearing an expensive jacket with a wrinkled shirt, that has holes in it or shoes that look like they could literally do the talking for you.

You should just look for something you think looks nice and you're comfortable in. Then ask a random shopping woman what she thinks of it on you before buying it. If she says she likes it, you've got something you like and the women like. If she says she doesn't like it, it's up to you whether or not you'll take it. Don't ask any girls that work in the store, though. In some stores they get fired if they don't tell you the clothes look good on you.

Your style depends on what kind person you are really. Are you the guy who wears band t-shirts or button downs? Do you like loud colors or neutral greys? Can you experiment with facial hair? Check out online magazines for style guides. They have everything, even an article about how to match cologne with your skin type.

Go for subtle details. I did this with the laces on my All Stars and I get LOTS of comments.

It takes a while to nail down a unique style; proper fit is more important than looks in my mind.
