There are a few ways you can go about with this situation:
- Hit her with the truth. Tell her "Hell yeah I am!" When my friends accuse me of being an asshole, I go "Yeah, but I'm the most awesome asshole you will ever meet". Everyone loves it! Why? Because no one around me, even those who are, admits that they could be a jackass.
- Play it off. This can be done by ignoring the question all-together. Throw the conversation on a new tangent. If she pushes, pass it off with more cockiness. I like to say "Well congratulations Scooby-Doo, you solved the mystery!" and then I belt out a huge laugh after it. You gotta show that you are playfully passing off the question, or otherwise she will get upset.
- Throw her on the defensive. My favorite is to hit her with the opposite of what she called me. In this case, the opposite of cocky is humble or timid. A good response then could go like "Hmm, strange, I didn't notice. I actually thought that you may have been a bit too timid around me".
If this situation proves anything, it proves this: there is no single effective way to address a situation in pick-up. It's a matter of doing the one that is the most comfortable for you at the time.
