If food is an issue then dont make it about food. Treat food / meals as an after thought for your dates. Never make your date all about food. You dont want to be scarfing down a meal when you're tryin to get intimate with someone. Realistically you should do something neutral like a fair, mall, bookstore or maybe thrift shopping. Think of places that arent food related that might be close to where you can go eat afterwards to your choosing. Be open to changes--id suggest eating a somewhat decent size meal before hand so you dont get hungry but could do with some kind of refreshment like say a smoothy, shake or a juice. Keep it simple. If it comes up--tell her and be forward about it. Most people will understand after a few minutes of talking to you and try to accomidate you and make a compromise.
Did you really lose friends over this? Or are you just not going out to hang out? Id suggest having eated before or prepare snacks when hangin out with friends so you can still be social and eat.
