n00b needing advice on approach anxiety

i live in a small town and the selection is pretty slim. there is only one bar that i frequent because sometimes i see a friend or two there. the selection of women is slim but it's still a selection. the only thing i can think to do is to grind up on one of them when they're dancing but i know that you're not supposed to approach from behind. i don't know what to do. the PUA community seems too advanced for small town mentalities.
