    Default Fake Profile on POF

Thought I would just share what I have been experiencing after using the advice I have seen on here about setting up a fake POF profile to see what sort of messages men send to women.

First off - Women gets tons of emails, within the first 30 minutes the fake profile had received about 50 messages!

Secondly - Men are very dull! The majority of the messages just simply say "Hi" or "Let's chat" or "You're beautiful" and other such dull messages. Then you get the guys who tell you about how much they have a good heart, and they will treat you right etc. Fortunately, no dodgy c##k pictures so far and just one message from a guy who said he wanted to probe me lol

This just shows how many dull, boring messages women get sent and how your message has to be different to engage their attention.

I am completely new to this and still very much a beginner. From this test I can see where I have been going wrong, so using all the cool information from this site, I should hopefully be able to improve my online game.

    Hope that helps.

So MonkeyBoy, I had to try this. It was a riot! "She" got favorited in seconds, as well as whatever people do to prompt the "so-and-so would like to meet you" automated e-mail. One clown sent four e-mails, none of which drew a response. And I feel conflicted sending a single followup. Lots of "Hi", "Hey", "I'm nice", "Wow, you're gorgeous", etc. One was sure he was just the guy "she" needed, dead sure. Many made the case for how great they were, in classic AFC manner.

I will keep the list around and look at it every so often as what not to do.

I did the same on POF last night after seeing a few suggestions around this forum and elsewhere, to see what things are like on the 'other side'. NOTHING could have prepared me for the result. In short - 90+ messages and 158 'Meet Me' requests in under 24hrs.

    The Profile
    Details:
23yo, Student, Occasional Smoker, Single, Seeking Relationship, No Pets/Kids, Has Car

    About "Me":
Heyy! I just moved to Aberdeen a while ago for uni, what a crazy city! Hoping to try something new here and see what happens! Anything you'd like to know, just ask! I don't bite!

    First Date:
Anything really! Just use your imagination

    Pictures:
Can't post the links yet (anti-spam rules) but basically type "Hanna Beth Webcam" into google images, and I picked 2 attractive but ordinary-looking webcam photos to give the profile a realistic look.

    Analysis
So it's very much an above average profile (particularly for a remote Scottish oil town with a mostly male population) but I'm still absolutely amazed by this.

What I find the most staggering is just the volume of data. I've only scanned through a fraction of the messages but I'm already seeing interesting trends. Basically, the vast majority are complete dross, with some OK, and in rare cases some high quality openers.

    From a pseudo-random sample of 10:
2 - Completely crap "hey how thiongs woth yuo"
4 - Completely insignificant "Hi there"
3 - Mostly insignificant but reference profile "So what are you studying?"
1 - Fully composed, thought out message

So that suggests that in Aberdeen, if you can even spell, you're already better than 20% of the male population, if you can show you've at least read the profile you're better than 60%, and if you can actually string a good opener together you're already within the top 10% of men. If your message ever actually gets opened - there are way more messages than most people would have time to read, which would explain why high-quality openers often achieve less than 100% success.

If somebody had a lot of time on their hands, and some solid stats skills, I reckon you could do a really interesting study here, particularly if you looked at different locations, types of profile (i.e. more average looking) etc.

Finally, if you're going to do this, don't use an email account you enjoy to set up the profile for this exercise. I did, and it literally got raped by illiterate dock-workers.
