I was out last night with a few of my army buddies after our course graduation. We ended up at a small place near the armory after a few drinks already at the mess earlier. This girl gets my attention, she's with a few friends, one of which is a guy, who ended up sharing a table with me and my buddies. I know I'm supposed to initiate contact within a few seconds if I hope to have a chance, but I'm new to this and take a while to gather courage (just got out of a long relationship). Anyways, I start talking to her guy friend and find out from him that she's single, other small bits of information etc. Eventually I talk to her and we seem to have interesting conversation about similar interests. At this point it's getting a little late and she tells me that she's going to step out for a second but will be right back. I say "no problem take your time." At this point I remember that I shouldn't sit around and wait, so I get up and talk to my buddies; try to look busy, not longing for her return. It's been a while and I haven't seen her again, so I go outside for a bit and end up talking to a guy there. Suddenly it's closing time and she comes out. I say something like "hey I thought you'd be right back!" She apologizes and we talk a little more. Before I go I ask for her number and she says gives it to me without hesitation. Next day now, I text her around mid-afternoon:
Me: "Hey [her name] it's [my name] from last night."
Her: Hi [my name]
Me: How was the rest of your night? You didn't happen to come up with a solution [for a "problem" she was having]
Her: It was lovely, thanks. Sadly I have not yet figured out how to fight the man...
Me: That's too bad. Don't give up! We need more people like you out there
Her: Haha, thanks Travis
Me: No problem. So is Latin American dancing night usually your go-to?
Her: Definitely not. I have no idea how we ended up there
Me: Haha I don't know how we did either. I'm glad though, it beat hanging out at the armory with a bunch of guys playing "the circle of death". (I notice here that she didn't ask what the circle of death was. I though it'd spark some interest.)
Her: I'm going to have to agree with you on that!
Me: Definitely. Always nice to meet new people
At this point she stops texting. I don't blame her. I didn't give her a hook to reply to or intrigue her.
Me: You know, I think I picked up some valuable information last night.
Her: Like what?
I'm not too sure what to say now. I intend to leave her hanging a little while now, maybe until tomorrow or just later tonight.
