Default Is online dating worth it?

I've never tried it and I'm in two minds about it. It does have a reputation for only being used by sad lonely people but there is the rise of smartphones where more and more people have access to the technology which makes it more trendy so to speak to access it rather than having to sit in front of a PC. The other thing that puts me off is even with a profile which gives some personal information, there is still that degree of anonymity which allows a person to hide their true personality and feelings which you couldn't get away with if meeting face to face.

I was just wondering, is it a good way to pickup?

Being catfish'd is always the risk everyone takes when dating online. I was semi-catfished once. Her pics were from a few years ago but in reality she was fat as fark lol. I just laughed it off and ceased communication afterwards...no big deal. But I've mainly had great success and met a few cool people from it. I'm actually currently seeing one from online who's awesome. It's a good way to meet other people and build up your confidence. I wouldn't claim that the entire site is used by desperate people though. A good amount of users are busy with work, school, etc. so they don't have the time to always go out and meet people. Try something new, network with others, and focus on enjoying the company with others which can lead into something more

Thanks LikeButter. I might give it a try. Do you recommend the big heavily advertised well known sites, lesser known ones or a mixture of both?

OkCupid and Plenty of Fish are the best free ones. Never pay for online dating. I just use Ad Block and no more annoying ads lol

I like online. It's my primary source for meeting women right now. I use POF, OKC and Match. For me, it's also a great way to practice conversation and hone my cocky/funny skills.

I also like having the benefit of being able to filter out women I'm not interested in, like women who have kids, certain body types, etc.

I don't know if I agree with LikeButter about never paying for online dating though. I've actually gotten more numbers and dates from Match than either POF or OKC. The women on the free sites seem more bitchy and flaky. It also seems that there's hotter/better quality women on Match, at least in my area. I'd also say there's less competition on Match. Definitely use the free ones first and get a feel for how everything works before you drop any cash though.

I do agree on not paying for crap like eHarmony or Chemistry or anywhere they limit who you're able to contact. That just sucks.

I have to disagree with LikeButter. If you're seriously trying online dating go with a paid site. It weeds out so much of the trash that populates POF. Having to pay to be on there filters out a lot of the girls who just attention or who aren't sure they really want to meet someone off the internet or who don't really have time for dating.

It would make sense to go onto a paid one because you'd figure that women are gonna take it more seriously and actually try to look for a long-term relationship.

Another quick note on POF vs. Match and OKC I've noticed... The 'about me' sections on a lot of women's profiles on POF are either short, boring or non-existent, which in my opinion, makes it harder to write to them unless you're using copy/paste openers or something.

More women on Match and OKC tend to write better profiles.

In regards to volume of women (from my age group of early 20s), most don't have the funds to constantly pay monthly to possibly find someone. I always go by the phrase "You get what you pay for" and I agree about the quality Match.com has . I've met some great people on POF and OKC but to each their own. If I wasn't swimming in tuition costs I would migrate over to Match, and I'm sure people like me feel the same way. I'm just speaking based on my age group but for older groups paid sites are more successful

It doesn't matter what site you use, and if you pay. What matters are your photos. The quality needs to be outstanding, both of the shots and of the photographs themselves. If you are serious about it I would pay a photographer; or if you have very attractive/model looks, still hunt down the very best photos you can find.
