    Default She Smokes Cigarettes

Dating this girl right now. She is pretty much all I have ever wanted in a girl.HB9, smart, motivated, ambitious, and has a lot going for her..minus the fact that she smokes cigarettes every now and then (I don't smoke)....

She knows I don't like it and she doesn't do it around me, but every now and then I can smell the smoke off of her and its a big turn off.

How can I address this? I'm sure many of you find this unattractive as well.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated, gents.

    A few options here :

1).You tolerate her flaw. We as humans all have our vices. Support her decision/addiction and hope your relationship motivates her to quit.

2). You take her pack of cigarettes, take two steps back, then boot them 1000ft away. Then give her an ultimatum: If she likes you she will do everything in her power to quit and keep you OR she walks those figurative 1000 ft away from you and continues her habit without you.

To give her credit she at least tries to not do it around you so she's at least trying to make you happy.

If I were you I would:
3). Give up one of your own bad habits and encourage each other. Doing something is a lot easier when you have someone with you every step of the way.

    Hope all goes well!

obviously neither of you has ever had to cut nicotine out of your diet. its literally up their in the top 5 most addictive drugs known to man.
she isn't going to quit smoking for a guy she hasn't even known for a year.

2). You take her pack of cigarettes, take two steps back, then boot them 1000ft away. Then give her an ultimatum: If she likes you she will do everything in her power to quit and keep you OR she walks those figurative 1000 ft away from you and continues her habit without you.

giving a girl an ultimatum like that is unrealistic. neither of you have ever tried to quit smoking.

I quit after I got out of high school, but the first month of it was hell. (fortunately I wasn't even up to one a day before I quit)

I still get the urge to smoke all the time when I'm out with my friends. the headaches come back at least a few days a month. and I occasionally give in (like maybe once a month)

don't lose a good girl just because you don't like one of her habits

however, her having a bad habit you don't like is a good thing. that means if she comes to dislike one of your habits, you have the power to tell her that if she expects you to quit your habit, you expect her to quit hers.

btw honestly I would rather date a smoker over an alcoholic. at least they don't get all b!tchy after indulging in their habit.

    I agree 100%^
Smokers are way better than girls who love to drink. At least, in my opinion. But everybody is entitled to there own opinions, and what they find attractive.

As for her bad habit? Nicotine addiction is extremely hard to quit. Like Meteora said, just accept it and try to encourage her to quit. If it bothers you that much, than just walk away because she's not going to change for you, not for a long time.

Just accept it, and then if you have a bad habit, you can tell use her smoking against her as a playing card kinda.

"Well if you quit smoking, i'll quit playing video games so much."

Or something like that, that's kind of a bad example.

I feel so attacked! Lol jk. I was giving him options not suggestions.

You pretty much agreed with my first and last point, the latter in which I actually did suggest he do which was quitting a bad habit together.

Everyone knows cigarettes are tough to quit but I am a firm believer in mind over matter. Mental toughness can triumph any addiction...besides heroine, that is on a whole 'nother level.

Theres another option, rather than asking her to quit smoking you can try to direct her to E-cigarettes. (But none of those crappy cigarette looking like devices...they are clumsy and taste bad)

They still have nicotine in them, so its not hard to make the switch at all! I just switched about a month ago after smoking for 3 years and its doing wonders and it doesn't smell at all, my lungs are clearing up, etc

Asking her to quit is probably asking too much early on, but she might be willing to compromise and try this. She still gets her nicotine and it feels just like smoking, and you won't have to smell it on her anymore!
