night one was a successful failure

I went out to some clubs in a college town last Saturday. I have always lacked bar game period. I used to get lucky some nights but it usually required massive amounts of booze. I was surrounded by tons of HB 9 and 10s. The night started off with me pumped and opening a few hbs that rejected me right off the bat. I shrugged it off cause there are tons of bars in this town. I went to a diffrent club and got the same recation. Needless to say I went home alone that evening. Being new to the game myself I did not expect to have success the first few times out. Here is the thing I realized I wasn't neging at all with my approaches. Now my question for everyone here is when is the best time to neg? Do I open with it or do I strike up the conversation first. Feedback on this would be great because I am starting to get lost on this step.

Your night wasnt a successful failure. You honestly had a good night you got out hopefully enjoyed your time and opened a few sets. To me a successful failure is staying at home bored then jerking it on a toilet.

Also their isnt a "right time" to use a neg.

negs can make or break your pick up, so if you dont know how to execute a neg , avoid it completely. Opinion openers works the best in the club scene

Liekus, you jerk it on the toilet? That's weird. I prefer the front of the bus, right behind the driver. Greet new passengers with a firm grip, wide eager eyes, and tongue flailing about with abandon.
