bartender... failed close?

I'm a little antsy about the pickup report last night... so me and a buddy were at a bar, and the bar was dead, like 9 people in total.. so I started making fun of the bartender and we had a conversation about life goals and funny stuff, she was laughing a lot.

I closed with .. "my buddy is rushing me to drive him home because he has a lame curfew, STILL .. but you are very cool. Put your digits in my phone and I will call you sometime."

her response was .. "I'd love to, but I don't even know my new number." so I said, "gimme a sheet of paper, text me, and I'll let you know your own phone number"....

did she say what she said because she was turning me down? or should I expect a text from her soon?

She was turning you down.

When you number closed I would have suggested saying something like "So we should hnag out some time when you are not working."

Then she may have given you her number. Really you have to Get Girls to take baby steps. First get a girl to say she wants to hang out again and then if she doesn't offer her number up. Wait a little while, and make another hint.

The last thing you want to do is ask for a number outright. It can work, but its always better to suggest it and make them feel as if they offered it up to you. It is a dhv and makes them want you to call.
