    Hello StealthyLothario,

If you're interested, you should reread my post. I know you're a fitness science major and can eat 2 slices of pizza a day and lose weight, but your reading comprehension may be suffering as a result In my post, I was speaking about dieters, not serious athletes. The two having significantly different objectives. Of course sugar is pure carbohydrate and of course, sugar is instant rocket fuel for the body. Which serious athletes require. That's why monster energy drink and "gel" packs are almost pure sugar, pure carbohydrate.

However, there is a significant nutritional difference between the calories of carbohydrate that one finds in broccoli than in "sugar". Broccoli being a source for complex carbohydrate with some vitamins in it and sugar being a simple carbohydrate and having no vitamins. Complex carbohydrate takes some work by the body to break down into usable energy, while simple carbohydrate is almost instantaneous energy for the body. The sugars from a complex carbohydrate consequently enter the blood system much more slowly than does a simple carbohydrate. This concept is summarized by a measurement called the glycemic index. A low glycemic (or 'slow' carb) source of carbohydrate is vastly superior for a dieter while a high glycemic (or 'fast' carb) maybe suited to the athlete requiring 'on demand' energy. As a science major, you might be interested in learning about this concept.

Also, I never say never. At the end of the day, one only needs to burn more calories than one consumes to lose weight, the topic of this thread. Yes, you can even lose weight on your 2 slices of pizza a day diet.

My point that you seemed to object to was that I said not to eat carbs. No, I said that sugar spikes your insulin (true) which drives cravings of hunger (true) and that a dieter should 'stay away' from this. Perhaps I should have added that if the dieter wants an easier time of it, don't spike the levels of insulin in your blood stream. Avioding this will reduce your appetite.

I welcome your response, but please, first read and comprehend my post. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about fitness science.

RUN. R U N. I wanted to lose weight on my thighs (For some reason I inherited some seriously female-ish thighs that get fat when I dont exercise) and fit into some nicer clothing. Well, I started doing squats but it wasnt for me. So I just started running. First time I ran I could only make it like 50 steps from my apartment and was winded. Jump ahead 5 months of just running as far as I can everyday, and I can go 8 miles with only one 15 minute break. My legs are like rocks, and I last longer in bed and dont get tired from much. I am happier and much more energetic.

Yeah, the key to weight loss is cardio and calorie control.

Also remember it's not just how many calories you eat but the quality of those calories are equally important.
