    Default How to lose weight the simple way

    So you want to get in shape to help both your inner and outer game? We,, im going to break it down into a simple step by step guide to aid you in your goal.

    1) you need lots of water. Water will keep you full and of course is healthy for you

    2) throw all your junk food or snack in the garbage. Yes, even that little bag of cookies you keep tucked away.

    3) get a simple calorie counting app like calorie counter or myfitnesspal (they are free) and set your goal so that you only want to lose about 1-2 pounds a week. That is a healthy range and wont make you start a crash diet. Crash dieting never works and you will be back in the position you used to be in within months.

    4)fill that fridge full of vegetables, slow digesting carbs (brown rice and sweet potatoes), and plenty of white meat (chicken, fish, turkey). Stay away from processed meat and deli meat as much as possible.

    5)Start a weight training program at your local gym. They probably have a beginners class you can take or there is bodybuilding websites you can go to to give you an idea on how to start. A whey protein shake after your workout will aid in the muscle building.

    6) Cardio should never been done in excess. I know once you start losing weight you think if you just do more running that you will lose more fat. The truth of the matter is that the slower you go the more fat you burn and the faster you go the more you burn carb storages in your body.

    Thats all there is to it! If you are eating healthy and at a calorie deficit you will lose weight. Throw in weight training and for the first few months you will be building muscle and shedding the pounds! I can answer any questions you have as well though

    I need to get back on track myself. One of my big rules that I try to stick with as much as possible is I don't eat many carbs after 3:00pm. I have lost some weight in the past just by following this one rule. For dinner I'll eat chicken or steak or fish and veggies but no bread and no potatoes or starches. A salad is good too. You don't want your dinner to be too small because if it is you will only get hungry later plus it has to last you a while(until the next morning). It is ok to break this rule occasionally just like it's ok to treat yourself occasionally.

    Working out is important too. Try to mix it up between cardio and weights. I like walking a lot too and sometimes jogging when it's not too hot.

    A trainer at my gym told me you don't want to go too heavy with the weights if you are trying to lose weight. You want to try to do something that you can do 12-15 reps with. That's what I've been trying to do.

    It's all really what you want when it comes to reps. 1-5 reps will build your strength, 6-10 will be more toward hypertrophy and muscle building, and anywhere beyond that is more towards endurance. In the end you should be really mixing the reps up from week to week for the most gains. You need to confuse your muscles because your body will adapt to whatever you do if you do it for too long

    Unless you are a serious body builder/weight trainer or power lifter you don't want to go too low(ie just one to six reps). I agree that it's good to mix it up for the most part but not everyone endorses or believes in the concept of muscle confusion. Not all bodybuilders or weight trainers even believe in that. The important thing is you don't want to do the same kind of reps every day. Do one muscle one day, another group the next day etc. I think it's ok to do the same amount of reps if you are trying to lose weight. If you want to get really ripped then yeah it's probably good to mix it up a lot more.

    Eh, I just quit smoking, along with being broke and an expired gym membership, I put on 30 pounds heh. I'm back on it now, went and got lots of fruits and vegetables, brown rice (I have an asian roomie we eat a lot of rice and what not, but he usually eats white). Brown rice is less than half the carbs! Processed meats are bad period, but I do believe in some red meat per week, it has lots of iron.

    One thing I would like to bring up, people, especially those in the seriously obese range need to be careful when running. Start your cardio by biking, swimming or using an elliptical, as it will be lower impact on your joints, (hence the reason I need a gym membership). Lifting is also great, you feel so much better and are more confident as you become stronger.

    The muscle you gain also helps increase you metabolic rate and helps you lose weight quicker

    Strength training programs are good for those new at weightlifting to get a routine going and form down. I started with Starting Strength and definitely recommend it for any beginners.

    Starting Strength will build you a great base but if you want to get more mass and definition you will want to start a split hypertrophy routine eventually
