    Default Swagman's Ultimate Review Thread

Recently I helped out Lockdown with some book stuff, and he brought up an interesting point with me: I have a quite massive and still growing collection of PUA material, ranging from books and audio tapes to videos and websites. I am also planning on reading and going through all of these and more. Some of them are a repeat to pick up on concepts that I may have forgotten, and others are to try and learn something new.

With that said, why am I not giving more reviews?

Thus, I decided that I would create a super thread where I would post all of my reviews. In due time, it will grow to become an incredibly large place where anyone can browse through it and find out what they should and should not check out. It can also serve as a place where people can discover new things to look into or figure out the details behind a book or video that someone brought up.

Here is the general setup of each of my reviews (Special reviews may be subject to change):

    ******************** ******************** ***

    "Name of the Material"

    Author Name

    Publishing Date

Type - Is it a book, a video, blog, etc.?

Genre - What topics of pickup does the material generally cover?

Length - Pages, hours, it depends on what is being discussed.

Readability - This is a measure of how easy it is for someone to sit down with the material and be able to stay on track with going through it. Criteria for readability includes the length of the material, size and spacing of the font (only for written material), diction and the ability to understand what the author is saying, and general setup of the material itself.

About the Author - I tell you who the author is, what their credentials are, and what they are generally known for.

Book Summary - The short and sweet summary of what the material is about and what it mainly talks about.

My Review - This is where I dissect the material so you don't have to latter on. I basically tell you what I liked and didn't like about what I read, heard, or saw.

Score - I give my final thoughts and words on the material and assign a score from 1 to 7. Why 7? Because 7 is a damn good number, and with how I critique and score, a piece will have to be extremely inspirational, flawless, useful, or unique to catch that lucky number seven.

    ******************** ******************** ***

If you wish to find a review of the material in this thread, I will be labeling the titles of the posts as the title of the material being reviewed. Thus, all you have to do is a search by post and you will easily find what you are looking for.

If you have any questions about the content of my reviews or of the material that I checked out, feel free to shoot them out at me.

Default 1001 Ways to be Romantic

    1001 Ways to be Romantic

    Author – Gregory J.P. Godek

    Publishing Date – 2007

    Type - Book

    Genre – Relationship Advice, Romance

    Length – 461 Pages

    Readability – Easy

About the Author – Declared to be “America’s Romance Coach”, Gregory J. P. Godek is a dating coach and public speaker. He has been active for well over thirty years, teaching his acclaimed Romance Seminar all over the world and to many different groups of people. He has also appeared on shows hosted by Oprah Winfrey and Phil Donahue. He is also known as being the target of constant criticism from comedic writer Sean “Seanbaby” Reily.

Book Summary – Godek’s national bestselling book dives into the topic of supercharging your relationship with the power of romance. Through 1001 categorized tab-like paragraphs, the author guides you through the fundamental ideals of a healthy romantic relationship and throws out a plethora of ideas to really shake things up to the next level.

    My Review

There is legit advice on how to do things, such as set the tone, manage a good relationship, and have a romantic time. Most usage can come if you’re in a relationship, but there are a good number of things in the book that can be used by the average single pickup artist. It’s only a matter of changing the context and altering ideas for your target. The book can also educate those not familiar with giving gifts on the proper process of gift giving and gift presentation for a multitude of different situations. However, the main lesson that Godek teaches is to notice and appreciate the little things, and this is something that I can agree with. It’s not a matter of what the gesture or gift is. It matters how it is done.

If one were to read this book, I would highly recommend these sections: Lame Excuses Department, Attitude Adjustment, Kick in the Pants, Myths of Romance, the Gospel according to Godek, No-Cost Gestures, Golden Rules of Romance, and Break out of That Box. All of these sections are excellent in that they contain advice geared not only towards those in a relationship, but also to the singles. From one of those sections, here is my favorite quote: “Relationships aren’t 50/50. They’re 100/100”. This couldn’t be far more eye-opening and true for me. It had never crossed my mind before that my belief of kicking it back and letting the girl take control could be flawed. Now, I do believe that a relationship, with careful management, planning, and effort, requires a lot more effort than half and half.

Of course, the book does have its negatives. Some ideas are extreme, such as 50 pounds of M&Ms, tons of birthday and Valentine’s Day gifts, and balloon adventures. In addition, awful advice is given at times, and it is given often throughout the book. If there were people who believed that there was such a thing as a money tree, Godek would be the number one advocate of its existence. He tells his readers to “always be in a gift buying mood”, and the ideas he throws out are outrageous. Diamond rings, trips to Europe, A PORSCHE?! Let me make this clear to all of you: DO NOT BE IN A GIFT BUYING MOOD (unless you want to see your wallet shrivel up like a raisin of course). Small gifts in a reasonable price range are okay, but if you are blowing serious cash on her, then that is not good, nor is it truly a sign of affection. As long as we are on the topic of bad ideas, some of these ideas will seem too farfetched and invested if you are not in a relationship or have a girl emotionally invested in you. You also should not be saying “I love you” until you are quite deep in the relationship and ready to commit on that sort of level. My final complaint with the book is the amount of advertising. There are a lot of phone numbers and shot outs for boutiques, writers, shops, etc., and it is to the point where it is annoying at times.

    Score: 5 out of 7

Despite its horrible teachings at times, the book is actually somewhat good. I can honestly say that I have become extremely inspired, and even as I am writing this at the moment I am becoming giddy with excitement over the new ideas I can use and implement. As long as you skip the paragraphs that talk about buying or doing extravagant things, and as long as you adjust actions for your current context, this book can serve as a good reference for ideas, and it can even teach you a lesson or two.

Default A Weapon of Mass Seduction

    A Weapon of Mass Seduction

    Author - Arden Leigh

    Publishing Date - Ongoing

    Type - Blog

Genre - Various (Depends on what she is in the mood for)

Length - Short (Most of her blog posts are not that long)

Readability - Moderate (Small font, short spacing)

About the Author - Arden Leigh is a female pickup artist and the co-founder of the Sirens, an all-female exclusive pickup community. Trained by legendary Dating Gurus such as Adam Lyons and Reid Mihalko, she is well known for her dominatrix style of pickup, where she uses her experience in neuro-linguistic programming, brand marketing, and social dynamics to achieve her desired results with her targets. She has appeared on CBS Talk Philly and various publications, both as an interviewee and a model.

Summary - A Weapon of Mass Seduction is the personal blog of Arden Leigh. Here, she talks about all of her experiences in pickup, ranging from today's news to various situations that she has encountered in her personal life.

    Review

Arden Leigh is of an extremely unique bunch. You commonly think of dating coaches and professional pickup artists as being only men, but you hardly see the females taking the stage, let alone working the moves on you. Her roots run back to Styles and Mystery, and she has drawn heavily from them ever since she entered the world of pickup. Reading her lay reports and advice, she clearly has the skills to pay the bills.

Her posts are extremely riveting and interesting to read. For starters, it's from a female PUA, which already makes it cool. Secondly, her posts are written in story format with incredibly good writing, which makes it easy and entertaining to read. As for the topics, they are usually around things that you would not normally think of. If you go onto the blog, check out the more recent posts, such as "8 Tips for Managing Mental Illness From a Reformed Crazy Girl". That is one of the first posts I had ever read on the blog, and it is still one that I highly think of as unique and valuable material.

Sometimes, her posts do run into the area of being angry, dramatic rants. Whenever a post involves a boyfriend or an ex boyfriend, be prepared for a sh1t storm. Actually, I would like to amend that: if you are on her bad side, be prepared for a sh1t storm. She is currently in some bad blood with the writers of The Rules, which started because the authors directly criticized her views and lifestyle revolving around non-monogamy, and they made some pretty ugly and degrading statements in front of her and other notable dating gurus. There is also The Vibe that she is drawn to a lot of ugly situations, which usually happen on Twitter and other media publications.

However, in the turbulence of those posts, she actually comes about with some legitimate and thought-provoking explanations to why she did and said things the way she did. Defensive, yes. Captivating, certainly.

    Score: 7 out of 7

Arden Leigh is of a highly interesting caliber. Despite the fact that she can be dramatic and a bit prissy, you won't find any advice and material like hers anywhere else on the internet. The posts are always entertaining, the content is unique and insightful, and you gain a really unique perspective from looking at the game through the eyes of the women. That is why I gave A Weapon of Mass Seduction a 7 out of 7.

    Default Magnetic Mindset

    Magnetic Mindset

    Author - Cory Skyy

    Publishing Date - 2009

    Type - Audio Series

    Genre - Confidence, Inner Game

Length - Relatively Short (Whole series is only 3 hours)

    Readability - Easy

About the Author - Cory Skyy is the founder of the Ultimate Lifestyle Club and dating guru. Beginning at a young age, Cory Skyy always lived life on the edge, often putting his life in danger multiple times. It was through this fearless attitude that drove Cory to become the best he could with women. He stresses a fearless attitude and the right mindset to make yourself successful with women. He is currently working on dating instruction and developing a man on the deeper level outside of getting women.

Summary - In his three-disc audio lecture, Cory Skyy reveals to men his secrets and process behind his infamous stare that can just draw women alone. Cory discusses things such as developing a healthy mindset and setting proper goals to put one on the right track to becoming the best they can with women.

    Review

I will admit, at first I had passed over listening to this several times because I didn't think it would be really good. I had never heard of it and I thus assumed that it would be the typical average PUA jargon.

I was actually very impressed with what I heard.

Notice that I said impressed instead of surprised. That's because, as you guessed it, it's the typical pua jargon. Throughout the entire lecture, Cory's main focus is having confidence, repeating things until they become habit, and developing a positive mindset. It could easily take you about five minutes to figure out that you needed to do that just by going to the forums and reading the threads on the subject.

The presentation of the information, on the contrair, was what really caught my interest. For a person just entering the game, Cory's lecture can be seen as a wakeup slap to the face. Not only does he present the information in organized, easy to understand terms, he also addresses the essentials with each process. The one thing I liked the most was that Cory pointed out that changing your mindset and having confidence in yourself alone will not get you all the way. He says that changing your mindset will set you in the right frame to motivate and draw to yourself the essential qualities of a man who can attract women. He also points out that when you don't work on it, you basically move backwards. Gentlemen, that can't be more true than it is.

Cory Skyy's big secret to attracting women with only his eyes is in fact just standing in front of a mirror chanting affirmations. I decided to see how effective it was, and I decided to test it out myself. I saw pretty astounding results. The more I chanted my chosen affirmation right into the eye of my own reflection, the more confidence and power I felt surging through myself. If I didn't have a girlfriend, I could have easily K-closed three different girls on New Years and maybe even gotten more. I will certainly be using this as a game energizer in the future.

    Score: 6 out of 7

The Magnetic Mindset is really a quality piece. Cory Sky addresses all the essentials to having a healthy mindset for the game, and he leaves no flaw or misinterpretation unattended. However, this easily comes short of receiving a seven due to the fact that those familiar veterans to the game would learn little to nothing listening to it.

Default How to Instantly Connect with Anyone

How to Instantly Connect with Anyone: 96 All-New Little Tricks for Big Success in Relationships

    Author - Leil Lowndes

    Publishing Date - 2009

Type - Book / Audio Series (Depends on which you get)

    Genre - rapport, Alpha Game

    Length - 336 Pages

Readability - Hard (Easy to lose concentration or give up)

About the Author - Leil Lowndes is a communications expert known for her multitude of seminars she gives to large corporations, special conventions, and the public at large. She specializes in analyzing the subconscious responses of people to everyday occurrences and exposing them to bring about better responses to negative events. She has been recognized by many different publications and talk show hosts, including Larry King and Regis Philbin.

Summary - Leil Lowndes' follow up to her Best Seller, How to Talk to Anyone, takes a look at ways a person can win the admiration of others in various situations. Through observing the reactions and feelings and others, Leil guides the readers to appropriately respond for the best results in any social or business situation.

    Review

I had heard about this book from Red Baron, and being recommended by one of the notable members of the forums, I decided to check it out. I was not disappointed by the content I found. The book is rich in information, and it can provide a lot of new insight into reading others and adjusting your own actions for better outcomes.

There is one thing that I absolutely love about this book, and that is the emphasis on other people. In the world of pickup, and even in the professional world, the final judgement on your work and its quality comes down to the intended audience. If you don't show the respect and positivism that they deserve, then they will look bad upon you.

My favorite part, and the one I recommend tops down, would be the section on Email headers. It isn't about the headers itself. It's the explanation behind why that matters. The lesson to be learned there is being remembered for positive things. If you associate yourself with positive feelings and memories when you are communicating with someone, they will be more excited and eager to talk to you.

However, I do have several issues with this book. The first is that it is very easy to lose track. Lowndes' writing is boring, and even ridiculous at some times, such as talking about the alien God guru of emails addressing planet earth on the essentials of how to properly sign an email . She also reads into too many actions and beliefs, like that men are cowboy figures and seating a woman to the left of you means that you consider her a friend. Honestly, I'll seat a woman left OR right of me, regardless of whether I like her or not.

    Score: 6 out of 7

Leil Lowndes has produced a very solid piece of work. It is bursting with information that PUAs, old and new, can discover. However, the difficulty of concentrating on it, combined with its ridiculous writing at times, makes it a hard book to read.

    Default The 4-Hour Body

The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman

    Author - Timothy Ferriss

    Publishing Date - 2010

    Type - Book

    Genre - Health and Fitness

    Length - 592 Pages

Readability - Easy (You don't have to read EVERYTHING)

About the Author - Timothy Ferris is an American entrepreneur, angel investor, and public speaker. He is known for his best selling 4-Hour series, all focused and designed for improving one's quality of life. Ferris currently serves as an adviser to Facebook, Twitter, and StumbleUpon and had even contributed to their start-up.

Summary - Ferriss' New York Times bestseller reveals to readers the latest and greatest in science and professional breakthroughs of health and fitness. From having a better sex life, to dropping fat and building muscle, Ferris covers all the areas of great health and fitness.

    Review

I had first picked up this book several years ago when I put on a lot of weight after getting surgery on my lower back. Originally, I was very opposed to the idea of eating salads, dieting and so on. However, I wanted change, and I decided to read the book and go on the diet with my sister.

Much to my shock and relief, I did not have to read the massive bulk of the book. Instead, Ferris has multiple lists in the front, all detailing which chapters you should read depending on what you are looking for and doing. As a result, I had a fairly short amount of reading to do.

Within the first week of doing the diet portion of the book, I lost seven pounds. Over the course of the summer, I lost 50 pounds and put 20 of it back on as pure muscle. I dropped several clothes sizes, had a ton more energy, and I was in the best shape of my life. Oh, and I also lead my swim team to their first state championship in seven years and hit the record boards as one of my high school's best butterflyers ever, because I was no longer dragging a bunch of fat and extra weight through the water.

I decided that after seeing great results with the diet portion of the book, I would read the entire book. What I saw did not disappoint.

With every single concept Ferris introduces, he has some scientist, some professional athlete, some sort of research data that shows why it would be a good idea to follow. It is very easy to sit down and focus on the book. In fact, you could probably read the whole unit that you want to focus on in an hour or two. Ferriss does not present the information in a confusing way, nor does he have any parts of the book that really makes you wish you can skip it. Why? Because you don't have to read the whole thing! Although I would recommend reading other sections of interest because the entire book itself holds a vast wealth of information.

    Score: 7 out of 7

It's a no-brainer to see why this book is a best seller. The easy setup of this book, combined with the tried and proven techniques, creates a quality of work that will certainly help you create the body and lifestyle that you always dreamed of.

I can vouch for Braddock's ultimate text guide; it's an amazing read. Improves your text game leaps and bounds, even if it's already sort of decent or good.

Actually in the midst of reading Double your Dating now, lol. I waited a while to read it for whatever reason. I'm planning to read "On Writing Well" after per Swagman's recommendation.
Always be honest with women. That's the true meaning of a PUA.
