    Personally, I only use treadmills for warm ups and for ten minutes at most. I stick to metacon for burning calories and getting in shape along with weights.

    Otherwise, it's whatever floats your boat.

    Working out with weights burns the most calories and the calorie burning effects last for up to 4 hours after you finish. Where as with cardio they begin and end with the exercise. Do a bit of cardio at the end of your workout with weights. You'll get better results.

    The treadmill can be a good machine for cardio, but some people have to be careful not to overdo it since the impact can injure their shins. I personally believe in mixing it up to include the elliptical, stair stepper, and swimming.

    As others have mentioned, resistance training is also very important and it's good to combine cardio with weight lifting. Muscle burns more calories than fat so building muscle helps burn calories long after you've left the gym. Plus you'll look better.

    Cardio, I'd rather go cycling or rowing. Running on hard surfaces goes against whatever nature intended and you do get side effects. The shins and knees are the first to go which is why marathon runners have a short life span in terms of their career. I wouldn't want to dedicate most of my workout on running and then do heavy squats with dried up squeaky knees.


    Best way to burn calories is a combination of rowing, cycling and weights. You can burn and lose fat by just doing weights. It simply depends on your workout and the correct posture, reps, sets etc.
